Every Day is Taco Tuesday!

Tacos are great any night, not just Tuesday, and we have a wonderful range of options in our area. If you can’t go in person, most of these establishments let you order in through Door Dash, Uber Eats, or other delivery services. One thing these places all have in common – fresh ingredients and authentic Mexican street food roots.

Mezoco Mexican Taqueria, 25 Depot Square, Montclair 973-744-4749

Mexican street food in the back of the Erie Saloon at the Walnut Street Train Station.  All ingredients are fresh and the salsas are all made in house.  Everything is gluten-free as well, but you wouldn’t know from how great everything tastes.  The ambiance is decidedly casual and the food is from Mezoco, but you can get drinks here too from the Saloon.

Tacoria Mexican Street Kitchen, 367 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair 973-893-5220

This is the second location for this spectacular restaurant (the first is in New Brunswick), opened in July 2017, and offers nachos, burritos, and quesadillas in addition to tacos. Order at the counter -- you pick your protein and then customize it with the toppings you want.  Check out the ambience for a total street food experience.

This three-year-old establishment has been bustling since the day it opened.  They hand-make their tortillas daily and their creative take on tacos were described by a New York Times reviewer as “flights of taco fancy…”  Seasonal selections include among others, fried calamari tacos, grilled scallops with roasted Brussels sprouts, and chorizo y papas tacos.  This is a fine dining place but like most of Montclair’s restaurants BYOB.

This tiny spot calls itself authentic, artisanal food made from artisanal recipes.  Folklore hews to traditional Mexican cuisine and the chef/owners opened their first restaurants in Teziutlan, Puebla Mexico in the 70s.

A laid-back spot with a “coastal-inspired” menu, the fish taco offerings include battered cod, grilled mahi mahi, blackened sole, and shrimp.  There are also meat options and burrito bowls.  Bring your own marqueritas!

Tinga Taqueria, 215 Belleview Avenue, Montclair 973-528-8368

Since opening in Upper Montclair 15 years ago, this place has been hoping, and now has locations in Millburn and Westfield too.  The always-busy dining room is small and cozy, casual and very family friendly, and the takeout is great.  Try the barbecue brisket burrito along with the wonderful guacamole and taco sliders.

Abril Cocina opened in spring 2015, offering Mexican modern fusion. Since then, Abril Cocina has been considered one of the best Mexican restaurants in New Jersey.  This small but charming eatery has fabulous food, with taco selections such as pulled pork and pulled brisket, and a Mexican bibimbap to die for.
