Great Montclair Dining Spots You have to Try -- Vanillamore Dessert Kitchen and Zeugma Grill

Downtown Montclair is filling up with amazing restaurant options. These two are worth the search for parking.

Don't let the name fool you.  Yes, desserts here are absolutely amazing, but there are savory dishes as well that make this the ideal spot for lunch or dinner.  And of course the weekend brunches do not disappoint.

We tried this place on a rainy and cold Saturday afternoon and found ourselves going back the next three weekends in a row!  The staff is lovely and helpful, the dining room is well designed to give plenty of space and not too loud, and the food presentation is definitely picture-worthy.

For lunch there is a large selection of cheeses for the cheese plates, small plate selections, a range of toasts, such as basil pesto or roasted cauliflower with romesco sauce, salads and grains.

For dinner add roasted chicken, glazed short ribs or skirt steak.

The desserts are works or art, with options including a selection of dessert "flights," a selection of paired bites, and wonderful hot drinks.

Since its opening, Vanillamore has been consistently busy, but they do accept reservations.

This lovely restaurant combines flavors of the owners' origin in Turkey, as well as Europe, the Middle East and other areas of the Mediterranean region.  So pretty inside, warm and welcoming, with friendly service,

We stumbled into Zeugma on a freezing cold evening because we got a great parking spot right in front.  It was very fortuitous, because dinner was wonderful.  We ventured back for a Saturday lunch a few weeks later and were completely hooked.

You'll find traditional mediterranean countryside dishes updated with modern influences.  The service is spot-on and the food is creative.

The food is a fusion menu with updates on classics, like the avogannoush starter, a baba ganoush made with avocado puree,  or a burger crusted with pistachio.  They serve California wines or you can BYOB.  Reservations are accepted.
